Hen Bone vs. Jake or Gobbler Bone CRAZY!!!!!!

I go crazy when I see gobbler wingbones in turkey calls.  I have bought a few calls accidentally thinking that they would have hen bones for the mouthpiece but they had jake or gobbler bones.  I have been using hen wingbones or trumpet since age 12 but decided to give the bigger bones a fair chance.  I started practicing with a gobbler bone and after a month or so decided that they stink for sound.. I think the hen bones give much better control for soft yelping and high pitch calling.  This makes me assume that when I see all sorts of calls being made with gobbler bones they are more for sentimental reasons or for using the resources from the bird.  I think I gave the gobbler bone a good trial but maybe someone can educate me.  This has been bothering me for quite some time.  What are your thoughts??

 I think...that just maybe, a fellow like yourself could show us how a trumpet are wing bone should sound.  The deference between a hen and gobbler mouth piece. I watched your videos thinking I just might hear some calling on a suction call, but all I heard was a little diaphram calling in the first video... The only thing I heard on the second video was a red bird in the back ground....and a whole lot of bad language....    Was that gobbler fix'n to attack that strutting decoy you had out....

 I'm really looking forward to the decoy hump'n video.....does it have any calling in it....

Ill put a trumpet yelper on there tomorrow if my internet allows.  sorry about the cuss word in the video I edited it out initially but when i export from the video editing software it really makes the video quality stink.  the video quality still sort of stinks because facebook must downgrade the quality.  I will do a demo video.. I have been using yelpers forever but I don't claim to be the best.  But it is what I kill a lot of birds with.

I wasn't calling in the videos.  it was a buddy James's hunt..  the video of the turkey humping the real hen decoy is neat.  Again apologize for the cuss in the video.  I don't condone that..

 When speaking of gobbler bones alot has to do with where the bird was killed.  Young gobblers in the south can be as light as 15 lbs, were as birds of the same age in the mid west and northern states can go well over 20lbs. A 20lb, bird will more than likely have a larger bone. I've actually seen bones from a mature hen that had a larger I.D. than most two year old gobblers from down my way. There are gobbler bones that will make a good call.

I make cane yelper's with wingbones and there is a difference between hen and gobbler bones. You just can't get that tone that you are looking for with  gobbler bones. A buddy of mine made me a yelper out of all gobbler bones and  i can play it but it just doesn't sound right .   Or maybe it's just the way I play them. I have other yelpers that have hen wingbones and  IMO they sound better.

I feel the same way about the gobbler bone.. It really made me think because the majority of the wingbone calls I have been seeing are Gobblers.. Wanted to make sure I am not doing something wrong because I am poor on a gobbler bone..  Keep the comments coming.. I want someone to defend the gobbler bone... I assume someone is a master on them..

I'm with you on the gobbler mouth piece. I'll even go as far as to say 80 percent of the wingbone and yelpers on the market are gobbler calls not hen calls. People kill turkeys with them but the bird thinks it is coming to another gobbler or a Jake. If you can get your hands on a copy of turpins original record of his hen yelping you will have to agree that he thought this also. Great post

I like the jake bones as it gives me the playability and sound that I'm looking for. Hen would be my second choice. JMO  Bill

that sounds awesome.  is that a large hole on the wingbone or small... very good calling... i would have never thought you could get that quiet and high on a gobbler bone.

 Sooner...Do you think all of your hen bones are better than any gobler bone...??
