My summer
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:08:57 PM »
If it wasn't happening to me, I'd say it was an outright fib.  My Karma level is at an all time low and I'm trying to get out of it.  My students keep saying, turn a negative into a positive and I've tried.  Several of you know what I'm going through and work is my life right now.  We have 3 remote campuses moving (just found out #3 today and I'm off to see what needs to be done tomorrow) and I've been on the road a lot.  I hurt myself pulling cable (wish I had a cool got hurt playing sports) and dislocated my right leg.  This kept me from making a trip down to Eminence, but it also got me called into work.  Went to work and luckily the trainers were there.  They popped it back in and away I went.  I don't believe I listened to them say, take it easy on the leg.  Went up for a rebound on Monday and it popped out again...

I have cabled more buildings in the last weeks than I ever want to in my life again.  I had to leave one site due to my injury and we are trying to figure out when to get back there.

Only a few know, but I did get offered another job and something I am looking into.  Only issue is it deals with traveling with a sports team that happens to be my favorite ladies basketball team... and they are extremely cute too (sorry dcole only one position opened).  I'm sure (for the sake of my family) I'll turn it down.  Not sure the wife would like that too much  *peep*

Today was the first day in about 14 days I was able to come home early.  Just rolled in about 20 minutes ago.  I owe a lot of people pm's and will get to them.  Unfortunately, I'm getting ready to go get some sleep (something I haven't had lately) and wake up early and head out of town.  I hope to be home mid Friday and possibly back tomorrow.

I've already had a failed Core upgrade, firewall failure, virtual server failures and a list of other issues.   We've had our phone room flood, took a direct hit of lightning on our main transformer, record heat, and you name it all.  I've been there and done that.  Worked two days straight and I'm just not built for that anymore :(

I for one will be ready for September, that's when it calms down...  big time!  I'm ready for some wood time and getting back to what I love... the outdoors!

So how many hours have I been averaging, I just calculated last week, and it was 91 hours at work.  Now I'm really depressed  *cry*  because I've worked more this week already than last week...

That's my living room in a nutshell!!!

I'm not sure how you do that week in and week out.  My summer is my busy time.  In the past I've worked 2 pm to 2 am and I think those hours didn't bother me working that much.  I promised I wouldn't miss my son growing up this summer and once again.. I did :(

My job is not physically draining, but it sure is mentally draining :(

I think right now I'd switch jobs, but mine is very secure and I'm afraid of losing that.  Plus 5 weeks of vacation is hard to beat!

It sucks for sure. The worst part is not the hours you put in at work. It's the mental hours you put in when your off work that get you. I know how you feel. I work about 70 hours a week now. It feels like a cake walk compared to when I was pulling those 80 to 90 hour weeks for 2 straight years.
