Here in Ohio where I was raised ,county fairs are king ! We have alot of 4-H programs and I grew up showing horses , cows and pigs . I also entered rocket building and woodworking at the county fair since I was very young . Well my Wife and I decided to enter some items in the fair this year just for fun ! Karen entered some cross-stitching and a blanket she made . I entered this fencepost caller that I built in a parquet style . It is made from some beautiful flamed box elder that was sent to me by my good friend Jeff McKamey . I paired it up with walnut salvaged from an old hayrack in Eminence along with kwila and maple for spacers . The lid is made from canarywood and has osage orange inlays .
I also entered a solid walnut checkered shortbox in a separate woodworking category . I am sure that the judges have never had a turkey call to judge before , so it should be interesting . When I dropped them off at the fair , several ladies asked me how they work and asked me to run them . As soon as they heard the callers work , they all got excited about them !! Wish me luck , this should be fun !!!
