When most of you see this topic, you may think of friend Justin Harrison that is a member here. My Gator Gobbling Stribling is named after Gator. It actually refers to a real Gator that slid off a log yesterday PM and followed me to my favorite bass fishing spot. I wish I had taken my camera to prove my story, but the falling Ms. River, Heat and Mud prevented that.
As I cut the motor, and started paddling my old flatbottom in for a slip on a favorite bass spot, I noticed about a 4 foot gator slide off a log and into the water. He kinda stayed there and parralled the narrow run of the river chute near the bank. I paddled about another 75 yards and starting unwrapping rods and tying on a parrot colored Rapala DT 10. I forgot about the Gator, but when the 4th cast resulted in a nice 3 lb bass, I noticed my friend put on the afterburners coming straight to the jumping fish. He closed to about 15 feet and stayed in about the same spot for the entire one hour period. Every time I caught a bass, he would do his best to get the bass before I could get him in the boat. On one fish, he had his mouth open and was skimming across the water to a sculling paddle length almost getting his teeth into the bass. On another my line was actually over his tail as I was slow reeling a shakey head worm in and the bass hit just as the worm started coming up from the bottom over his tail. The bass broke water 6 inches from the gator and he again went nuts. I thought that the gator, submering, and swimming through the prime area would spook the fish, but it didn't. When I finished about an hour later and decided to quite because the mosquitos were getting thick, I left my hungry friend, bassless, floating over the honeyhole. I had caught 16 bass that I released to catch another day. ---- I wonder if he will be there next trip. I'll let you know.
