I picked it up yesterday and it feels great. We'll see if it performs the same way . . .
I don't want to do any drilling or tapping on this one, so if I was going to go the red-dot route it would have to be mounted on the rail. I'm not positive that they make these, but I seem to remember reading about one somewhere. I would really rather go with a truglo, simply because it's what I'm used to and I also want to use the gun for dove/ducks/quail.
Hoobilly, what kind of Truglo didn't last 8 shots for you? I would like to steer clear of that one
I looked online, and I believe the Truglo® Pro Series Magnum Gobble-Dot™ is the one I've used on my 870 for years. That thing is solid, but I like the look of the Truglo® Tru-Bead Universal Dual Color (probably w/ the notched rear sight). The thing I like (in theory) about that second one, is that the rear sight is interchangeable (between the ghost ring and notch), so I might be able to just take the rear sight out for waterfowl/etc. use. It also has a lower profile than my truglo, so it might be fine to leave the rear sight in for all purposes. However, the obvious con with this one is that it doesn't look as sturdy as the one on my 870 (both front and rear).
On another note, does anyone have choke tube suggestions for me? My gun came with three factory chokes (F, M, IC), which I'm looking to replace with extended chokes. Has anyone had experience with the Browning Full Strut extra-full? Whatever the brand, I think I'll go with an extra-full in one barrel and a M or IM in the other.
