Ground blinds,......good or bad for the sport?

Hey guys,...gathering a little information for an article i'm working on.  How do you think "tent blinds" are changing or have changed the sport of turkey hunting.  I'm not talking about youth's or handicapped (that's another subject).    The old traditions of turkey hunting,..sitting still, being quiet, being alert, calling them in close,..etc. etc.  ,..were those all important points, or can we just forget all them now as we sit in our tents, with a magazine, a sack lunch and just wait for one to come into the corner of the field?   What do you all think of them?

3 years ago i hunted in one with a bow. The amount of movement I got away with was outrageous. I haven't been in one since. I am glad I grew up hunting without one.

If others want to use them  have at it.

I don't mind getting wet..... unless I have a 20 hour drive home as soon as I leave the woods.

I didn't exactly answer your question but that is my thoughts.

I only use it on bad rainy days. Other than that I just prefer to not use one

To each his own in my opinion. I think it's a bit self serving of some hunters to sit and criticize the idea. It's funny that no one makes a big deal of the camo used today that is LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything used in the past. Or the fact that choke tubes, decoys and anything else you can think of are vastly improved from years gone by. I don't like to use one unless it's raining, but it don't bother me if someone else does.

I have used one before but I do prefer sitting by a tree.... they are very useful in field situations when a birds goes out into the middle of a field all of the time.. and no other way of getting close...I am not against any one useing a blind.... as said in the earlier post... no different than all the fang dangled decoys  ect... also they are great when you want to take a kid or two as they cannot sit as still

I do not use em, too many Palm Mettos here. 

With todays chokes and Shotguns, why??

Besides, I'd look goofy as heck trying to scoot around in one to move on a bird with em, get busted everytime I bet. 

Lot of variables there, Nice for Kids, and to just view/film wildlife and photography, to Turkey Hunt, I am not so much for em.

This is one among many topics that can get the hackles up on some hunters .I used to be among those HACKLED gents myself .
 People are gonna do it the way they want or until they learn something different . The thing about blinds to me is not so much the blind itself but, rather , why anyone would continually hunt fields . I doubt I'll ever trap myself in one .
 As for the things mention above . High tech camo , screw in chokes and the super ammo of today ,,,it's all great stuff ,,,,but it ain't necessary to fool a turkey and tag him too. I've been on both sides of the fence on this and for me ,,,I'm enjoying turkey hunting more each season spring and fall without any of the latest stuff.

Being from the ole' school in my ways of hunting turkeys doesn't help my interest of hunting out of a blind.....

     For people w/ disabilities and children, they are a wonderful tool.....

     I'm not going to look down my nose at anyone who uses a blind, but you will not find me using one....

I hate blinds! In fact, I wish they were illegal for able-bodied hunters. I feel the same way about strutting decoys...wish they were illegal too.
Everybody has the right to hunt they way they want, within the law, but that's how I personally feel about the subject.

I find it comical that fellas bash blinds, decoys, camo, etc..

I've got news for you all, there are no symbolic victories in turkey hunting.   The sheer nature of hunting indicates a person walking out of the woods with a turkey who used a blind is a more effective hunter than one walking out of the woods without a turkey or a blind.  To those who think they are paying homage to the great hunters of yesteryear; don't kid yourselves...  Many of the famous hunters/call makers/authors hunted with rifles, some had no regard for bag limits and/or property lines, and if they knew how effective blinds and decoys were they too would have used them.

I'm a working man, a father, and a full time college student with a very limited amount of hunting ground at my disposal.  With my schedule I dont get many hunting days.  When I do you can bet I'm going to make the most of the few that I get.

Theres a time and a place for everything.  I occasionally use blinds when the situation dictates it.  I've seen areas and encountered turkeys that wont be killed without one.  I've used decoys with mixed success and will use them in the future.

To those hunters who have decided to add an additional challenge like archery, blackpowder, or a no blind/decoy policy I can respect that.  It doesn't entitle you to judge others nor does it make you a better hunter than them.  Period..
