With only 4 days left of hunting this is the "MOST WANTED" bird on my hit list!! He was missed by another hunter on the second day of the season when I called him in off the roost!! I busted him off the roost one morning!! I had one close encounter one day when a black bear busted my set up!! Had another close ecounter when a pair of jake's ran him off!! We buggered him one day by trying to set up to close!!! By the end of the season he was so abused that he wouldn't answer any call in anyway or form. Through it all he was still visiable and I had made my mind up that if I had to ambush him to kill him thats what I would do. With only 2 days left of the season he finally showed up on the clear cut about 70 yards away. Hopeing he would feed my way I watched him for 45 min. feeding on clover and he never moved more than 5 yards!! I got alittle impatient so I made a cluck on a proto type pot call I made a few years ago. With that he lifted his head and started my way all the time with his head parascopeing looking for the bird who made the cluck!! Let me tell you he was on HIGH ALERT!!! 35 mins. later he was what I thought to be in killing range of under 40 yards when something made him nervous and he turned to walk away. I didn't give him much of a chance to put any distance on me, I just raised my gun and fired!!!! It was a total releaf to finally kill this bird!! 17 Lbs.,  9 inch beard , 1 1/8 inch spurs.

Nice bird and great story! I hunted one for the last 2 weeks of the season, only to let my brother take the shot! he missed *cry*  You can't give up on these birds! Congrats!

Congrats on anytime getting to drop the hammer on a hit list bird.......sometimes they can really haunt you.

Congrats. Tom they can get aggrivating, I killed one the third week that I hunted for three years I know I slept better after that. Ya just cant give up on them.
