This time of the year is always so sad for me. I went out yesterday and said some words to my grandpa again. I lost him at a very young age and I truly appreciate everything he ever did for me. I wouldn't enjoy the outdoors if not for him!
While at the cemetery, my son wanted to go look at some of the older tombstones. History Channel is running some great Civil War documentaries and my son is really into the history of the Civil War.
My grandpa is buried in a small Church cemetery. We went to the older part of the cemetery and low and behold what I saw I couldn't believe. There stood two Confederate flags at two tombstones. One you could not read, but the 2nd one was very legible and even stated he fought in the Civil War. My son asked many questions and even found (what appeared) to be several relatives. The others just had an American Flag on them. I told him it was a good chance, they fought for the Union. I explained to him how the Civil War divided families.
He then asked if I thought Stonewall Jackson was in this cemetery. I smiled and said didn't think so. He then told me he wanted to go to Gettysburg. I see a trip there for me and him very soon.
On my other grandpa, my son picked out his own red, white, blue flowers to put on his grave. He made sure he put them in the ground and then at the tombstone thanked my grandpa for his service in WWII.
That made my day! Finished up the day watching the Coca-Cola 600 with my dad and son. I think my son is getting hooked on Nascar now too

Hope everyone gets to enjoy this weekend and be with many loved ones!
