I work in the department of surgery at St. Lukes Hospital west of St. Louis about 20 miles.  We had a violent storm hit us this morning just as we were finishing a heart surgery procedure.  We elected to hold our patient in the safety of the OR until power was restored.  The operating rooms are usually centrally located in a hospital and are a pretty safe place for both patient and staff.  It was really ugly outside and thoughts of Joplin crossed my mind.  Prayers sent from your neighbors in Missouri.

That photograph and others I've seen on the net today, including the stormchaser video of the tornado, reminds me of the twister that hit Midwest City, OK several years ago.  It was an F5 tornado, and this one must have been an F5 as well.  I watched or actually all you could do is listen to a video of some folks caught in a Fastrip store when it hit.  It was terrifying just to listen to it.  We had a small tornado hit our community about 3 weeks ago, but I can not imagine waking up to what the folks in Joplin woke up to this morning.

Our prayers are with that whole community.

Prayers going out to Joplin. No way to imagine what it must be like. May normalcy be restored soon.

In a normal spring there are 500 tornados. This spring there have been 1000 and counting! Usually 20 cause major damage. This year thus far 50! Prayers sent from MI.
