Here is one of the most outstanding woods from which I've ever made a yelper. This is fancy English Walnut that came from the famous Reinhart Fajen gunstock maker firm. The new owner is not only a gun collector but a collector of mainly high-end fancy walnut for gunstocks, and he supplied the wood. Since it was originally intended for a gunstock, I used a blend of boiled linseed oil, tung oil and semi-gloss varnish...wipe it on and let it soak, wipe off and let it dry. It has six coats of the blend with the last three coats sanded back with 2400 to a matte finish. Of course the usual elephant ivory mouthpiece and brass ferrule. Enjoy.
