Finally got a bird!
« on: April 29, 2011, 12:26:11 PM »
I've been hunting hard the last few weeks and only had a empty gas tank to show for it.  I had rushed one, had some dogs ruin another and had a jake bust me last week.  I had planned to get on the bird that had the jake bust me, but when I started to them this am, this bird was hot and heavy, not even 150yds from the truck.  Needless to say after 30 minutes or so, he found his lovebird and we were both happy! I'll post some pics later........Chad

20.95lbs
1-3/16 & 1-1/8 spurs, I had to get a good tape measure, first one was junk
10-1/2 beard

He had 20 tail fan feathers, not sure how to age them?

Congrats feller ,,,that's a dandy . If I remember correctly , most turkeys have 18 fan feathers . I killed a huge tom in the fall that had 19 in the fan . It was a second year bird . A three year old bird I took has a smaller, shorter fan with eighteen fan feathers .

Ain't really sure what it really means , but those extra feathers do make a handsome tailmount.
