Son's First Birds In Kansas
« on: April 23, 2011, 04:25:40 PM »
Me and my buddy brought our sons with us this year to Kansas.  We had a really good trip 7 birds total.

My 7 year old son Kyle shot his first birds ever on the trip.  Can't hunt in our own state till they are 12.  That is sad!!!!

We set up in a brome field with a strutter and a hen decoy out.  Had 3 jakes come in and he shot 2 with 1 shot at 12 yards just as they started to bump the strutter.  He was so excited!!!!  It was pretty cool.  One of the birds came over the hill first then a second and then the third.  After the third bird saw the decoy they came running at him like a gang.  Awesome hunt.  Had Glen M make up 4 calls for the hunt.  They are awesome as usually for Glen's calls.

Me and Kyle with his 2 birds

My call with one of my birds

All 4 calls

Thanks Jim.  I hunted with Glen the other day and we talked about making a picture call for Kyle.

We had a great trip.  I didn't care if I even saw a bird as long as Kyle had a good trip and got into some birds.  He is hooked now.  Asking to go all the time now.  Sucks he can't hunt here in N.Y. for another 5 years!!!  I brought him along with me Sat but no luck, he had fun anyways getting away from his twin bothers!!!
