Made my trip to Orangeburg last week and was so very fortunate to be able to hunt w/ Rev Farmer on Monday. He is truly a delight to share the woods with on a Spring morning! Zach and I took separate routes at sunrise and slipped down into the swamp. I worked a couple of birds unsuccessfully and Zach didnt hear any. I was to meet him at 10:00 at the vehicles, so I slipped out. As I approached, I could see Zach standing up in some little planted pines with his hands cupped in front of his face. "Now what is this crazy old man doing....?" Should've realized. He says, "You hear that turkey?" "No,sir. I was walking." "Well, listen." He yelps and right on the edge of hearing I hear the response. Well, Zach had to go back to town, so after visiting for a while, he takes off. I get the idea that I can slip around the young pines and maybe raise the turkey from the other side. A few sweet nothings from "Sambo" and he hits. He drifts around some mature pines for some time and I can tell he's walking back and forth. I let him get to the fathest point on his line and picked up and scooted to him. Set up, few little yelps and there's a red head. He gobbles in my face at twenty steps, takes two steps to the left and the little Stoeger Uplander double barks. Nice three yr old. All three of my birds this year have only heard Sambo's Siren song and died for their toubles! Thanks again, Zach. Enjoyed our hunt!
