Kansas Trip
« on: April 16, 2011, 07:52:11 PM »
Well another season in Kansas has come and gone.  Had the great fortune of meeting firedup where we were hunting and they had a lot of success for the weather!

Daryl smoked a nice Rio opening day and it was a pleasure to see him get his Rio!  He was told by an expert from Memphis on how to properly dispose of a bird at 15 yards.  The good ole fashion Texas Heart Shot.  Daryl flat out dropped him and gave him a permanent dirt nap!

We worked several other birds, but never could get the perfect setup.  I watched multiple birds strut, drum and spit.  Gobbling was intense.  Most of the birds were henned up with 40 to 50 hens, but we saw birds every darn day!  Thursday started out beautiful, but the birds didn't cooperate.. then mother nature unloaded on us.  30 to 70mph winds.  It was unbearable to hunt in and hearing anything was impossible!  Then the sky opened up and torrential rain fall made it impossible to get on most of the roads.

We went to Ole Reliable today and thought we had a bird on a string and, like always, they showed us who was boss.  We've shot one bird off of this area the last 3 years.  There are a ton of birds on this place and they are very challenging birds.

Overall it was another great hunt and one that will provide many memories for me.  Larry sure did "Git-r-done" this time  *up*

Next year we will look at going at a later time.  Opening weeks weather is just too darn unpredictable for us!

I'll post some pictures later as we just rolled in.  It's time to unpack from Kansas and get ready to chase some big ole Southwest MO Easterns now!!! Also have to start getting ready for ole dcole's trip to hunt these elusive birds too!  As one member leaves, another one is about to make the journey to my neck of the woods.

Well if you had to hang out with Daryl  *peep*  you'd know why I wasn't mad.  To me, it is way more than just killing a bird.  It was spending some time in the outdoors with a great friend.  I was so fired up for Daryl.  I shot one the first year and it took him 3...  I figured it was his time  *cheers*

Ole Darlin just pointed his vehicle East and is heading back home to TN...  Have a safe trip Daryl!

Well, I guess I need to let the cat out of the bag about Porter.  This is for all of you that have often wondered about Porter.  I know I have.  I received this text message on my phone today.  I guess ol' Porter was on his way home.  Answers many questions I had about him.   To me, the best Porterism yet.   ROTFLMBO
