Put a smile on my face!
« on: April 08, 2011, 12:34:31 PM »
There is a young lady I work with that is a single parent of 2 young children. I know she has struggles with bills & groceries. From time to time I think she sacrifices her own meals in order to make sure her children are completely taken care of.

I talked to my wife last night about it and how could we help out. We struggle at times ourselves and really can't afford to give financial assistance but I figured out one of the best things I can do for her without making her feel like she's a charity case.

Today at lunch I invited her to tag along for a few minutes. I took her over to the local Sports shop and bought her a fishing license. I brought to work one of my old fishing poles and 2 kids poles that belonged to my children that they have long since outgrown. I told her the best advice I can give is to teach her & her children how to fish and be somewhat self-reliant. My wife, kids, & I are taking them this weekend for a fishing lesson.

The look on her face was priceless when I told her that if she learned to do this not only will she be able to provide a healthy & plentiful meat supply for her family that it will give her an opportunity to spend more quality time with her children and give them something that they can pass on to thier children.

Man, this is what it's all about! I can't wait to get photos of the kids with their first fish  RkLu

What's the old saying? Buy a man (or woman) a fish and they eat a meal. Teach them how to fish and the eat fish every meal.
I can't remember exactly how it goes but it's something like that.

Great gesture Shad.
