Something a bit different

Idea came from a guy who used one of my yelpers as a striker. Cane/bone striker. Very high pitched, much like a carbon. Got plenty of gobbler bones laying around. Now I have something to do with them.  You can also use this one as a suction yelper, but it's toned pretty deep.
Thought y'all would get a kick out of this.

That's funy cause I just read about that very same thing on another forum. A guy was asking for opinions on using a trumpet for a striker in a pinch. Most guys thought he was a little nuts for using a good trumpet for a striker instead of using it as a trumpet. On a side note I have some gobbler bones that I thought about making 2 piece stubby strikers out of just to try it. I guess I 'll have to quit thinking about and just get to it.

Cool idea and I've seen people use their trumpets before for strikers...

I gave a guy here in Ms a cane yelper a couple of years back. He never could get the hang of it, but always said it made one heck of a striker. That's where the idea came from to do one from cane and bone.

Great idea. I have been making some hen bone/corncob strikers and they work great for the soft talk.

Got another one for ya... I still have (and use) that cane yelper we traded for a couple of years ago. I pulled it out of my bag the other morning and something sounded different. When I looked at it, I noticed that the glue on the bell section had broken loose and the bell had slid up the middle section, shortening the whole thing. I just pulled it back out to full length and it sounds as good as ever! It sure fit in my shirt pocket better in the shorter configuration! So, my idea for you is to make a collapsible yelper that you can pull on the ends to use and collapse for easy carry.

They have used Bone strikers for over a 100 years.

I Just use the radius 4 the striker end, and the femur as a chamber.

A gobbler 2 bone yelper, makes fer a good striker as well.

A good friction call, is only as good as it's striker.

I know that folks have been making wingbone strikers for years. But I like working with the cane and haven't seen anyone doing anything with it in this way. Don't know what, if anything, I'll do with the concept, but I thought it was a good idea, and they bring a different pitch/tone to my pot calls.

No need to apologize to me! That caller still sounds good... and fits better in my shirt pocket to boot! Nuthin' wrong with the way it plays -- just the player! That glue popping loose wasn't your fault. I probably let it get in a bind in my call bag. No harm, no foul.
