I've been reading up on this ''turkeydoggin' '' on and off for a couple years . I realize putting any time into a walker for turkeys may just be ''exercise'' for me and the hound . But , I just aquired the dog due to someones negligence or cruelty . He was hit on the road last week and my wife works for a vet so she took him in to get doctored up . Ended up getting the whole nine yards and a good report of no broken bones or major damage , other than some hide tore off his toes .
He's right at a year old according to the vet . Still squatting to pee . But he learns super fast . I really wasn't looking for a turkey dog at this time . I figured I'd wait till Ohio raised the fall bag limit . And , money being tight as tree bark , really don't need another dog , already have two spoiled rotten .
But I'm willing and now anxious to get him back to 100% and start some training . I'm already working on some commands and he's coming along good .
Had the privilege to talk with Marlin Watkins about the walker last sunday . He gave me several tips and it was a pure pleasure talking with him .
If I can trick an gobbler here in a couple weeks I'll start on this walker with some fresh scent .
Thanks for the comments and advice , I appreciate it, fellers .
