No attitude you say, you may want to re-read how you typed your point and what you said then, pretty clear to me.  My name aint Lucy, and by your all caps wording its very apparent you're expressing attitude.  So I gave it right back.  Period end.

You see it on the turkey videos all the time, mostly with Merriam & Rio hunts ... 8)
... they have 3 gobblers comin' (racin') into the set, & all 3 are gobblin' like crazy - the hunter hits a call, & all 3 gobble in unison in response to the call ... ;D

So, are gobblers #2 & #3 shock gobblin' to gobbler #1's gobble, maybe - but which one of the 3 was gobbler #1 ?? - after all, they did apparently gobbled in unison ...

... but just maybe, natural "competion for the hen's attention" may be more likely, when there's gobblin' in unison in response to a yelp, cluck, or what-ever type of turkey call ...

They don't always gobble in unison, sometimes the gobbles by the different birds are staggered a little - maybe it's just a little different reaction timin' by different birds - some quicker than others ...
... but either way; gobblin' in unision or staggered; in response to a turkey call, might still be considered as a gobbler's natural reaction in the spring, to try to draw the hen's attention to himself ...

... just a thought ... ;)

Not a bad explaination! My experiences are much like what J R just stated. Last year I had 5 birds come in strutting and gobbling at the same time or what seemed to be the same time. I very seriously don't think it's shock gobbling (at least not from those birds) as they didn't do it at every call just certain calls. If it was shock gobbling it would be at every single noise you make.

It may be more of a tone thing- kind of like a hot chick yelling hey baby & flashing a bunch of drunk 18 year old boys...... all will react at the same time exactly the same way

Just my thoughts as I'm no wild turkey expert

Someone gets it!!!! *bowing* *bowing* *bowing* *bowing* *up*  JR and Shad you guys explained it very well, your views are much the same as mine.  Exactly what kind of thoughts and replys I was looking for.  Great insight guys. I agree with shad most.  His ideas on it are spot on with what I think.  It is weird that they all respond to the very same call but not every call.  why that call or note yah know.  Neat but wierd.  I know we'll probably never know the answer matter of factly but fun to speculate.---Jason

The TRIGGER, that Triggers a shock gobble ???, or, what TONE, triggers a shock gobble ???

I am not for sure, but just simple shock gobbling, or what Triggers it, sounds too easy here, I must not have enough, well, Insight. ??? ::) ???

How do you distinguish a shock gobble from a regular gobble then??? What I understand you are saying is pretty much every gobble could be a shock gobble.

What I stated wouldn't be a shock gobble but an actual reaction to a hen or hen sound. To me a shock gobble would be to a loud noise from another species or thing- thunder, car horn, owl, crow, etc... If it is also from a hen sound then they are all shock gobbles?
