Trash Can call
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:49:13 PM »
Not very flattering but as I added more "crap" into the call design and makeup, thats the name that evolved for it in the back of my mind.  This call has been on the bench and in the works for a while.  I guess I finally had to put an end to it and call it done.  Body is a hewn out piece of plum in a parquet style with angled cherry burl end blocks and ebony. Ebony inlays in body and lid.  A little checking for good measure.  A stylized strutting gobbler inlayed into the lid with walnut, ebony, butternut, elk antler and turqoise.  The lid is cherry with a touch of cherry burl and and the base is more plum. The plum is the first I've worked with much other than strikers.  Dense, hard to work but really nice grain and color.  Turned out nice and raspy with a good breakover.  On second thought, only 1 more piece of "crap" to add. A turkey blood thumbprint this spring! I'm on a mission now..... ;D  *ride*

Drop dead georgeous LT...I knew you had started this long ago when I believe you built the lid first with inlays...glad you stuck with it.   The angled end block make it very cool--great craftsmanship once again and thanks for sharing--hopefully it shines come opening day!

That is a good reaction to seeing that call!
