setting up at Nashville in 2012?
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:35:30 PM »
Hello everyone, I am fairly new to this site and had the chance to meet a few of you at nashville this year. I also got a lot of good feed back from a lot of people about my calls and how i should get a booth at the show next year. I was hoping to get some opinions about if it is worth getting a booth next year. I am planning to start building calls in june this year to get ready for nashville next year. Any advice would be great.

                                                  Thanks,
                                                             Dustin Jones

Have you checked into the cost for a booth?

You need to weigh the cost of the booth, travel, lodging and food, vs how much product you need to sell to off set those costs.

there's a couple different ways to look at it,....how much is it worth it to you to market your calls,....there is no better place to go if you want to "show" your stuff than in front of 40 thousand turkey nuts,...I never put much "value" on the actual money across the table at the shows, although Nashville always paid for itself and than some.  But acutally putting your calls in the hunters hands and meeting them face to face, is hard to put a price on that.  It may take a few years and alot of shows, but it's the best way to start your customer list,..you will sell more calls to people who weren't at the show, but saw one of your calls that their buddy bought.  Custom calls need to be seen in person, touch, feel and most of all listened too.  It's hard to do that in an advertisement in a magazine,...and more than likely they aren't going to come to your shop and ask for the calls right now.....you gotta go to them.,...show your stuff,...make an investment.... But don't have the "get rich quick" thinking.  Be patient with it, and enjoy the craft.

The cost can be hard to take but the experience is priceless.  I love meeting all of the people and the if I help one kid get into the sport it's worth it. I try to break even and have fun. It's a time of the year where winter is coming to an end and turkey season is upon us.   Who knows you may even make a dollar or two.
