old osage trumpet
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:13:37 AM »
I made this trumpet out of some old osage fence post picked up last spring in OK. Not quite mud cured tho....wind cured maybe! ;)  It is weathered osage on the bottom with a cocobolo mid section. Cartridge shell transition into a hen bone mouthpiece.  Traditional cork lip stop. Good yelps, cutts and kee kees. Can't seem to get the hang of a good purr on a trumpet tho.. :( But that is not the calls fault ::)

Cool looking call, kind of a hybrid with Jordan/Turpin ancestry? I like it!

Thanks for the comments. Dave it is a hybrid of a couple of traditional styles.  I really like the look and heft of the Turpin style. Solid. But just love the tone and feel of the wingbone mouthpiece.
