2nd Place Winning Entry from ShadeTree Callers

[Shadetree Callers]

 First I would like to thank everyone for all the kind words and encouragement this year. This call is made from York co. poplar from Pa (thanks Zumer) and cherry I was sent by Chris Kirby president of Quaker Boy calls. This is call #1 of 2 that were built to honor the Legendary Dick Kirby . My dear friend Gregg Guthridge volunteered to decorate these two calls for me . I couldn't have dreamed of anything better than what he came up with ! Thank you my friend ! Turkeys will always be the best judges of what we build , but this year the NWTF panel of judges decided to pick my caller for 2nd place.  I owe a debt of gratitude to several people but I would like to thank Dick Kirby for turning me down the right path with my callmaking and encouraging me to stay at it . Dick told me that this would be the year I won in the competition and he nailed it . I am sorry to say he isn't here to see that I accomplished it , but his son Chris pointed to the sky and said " Bob , he does know ! "  I had goosebumps all over at that point . And a big thanks to Marlin Watkins for his unselfish sharing of information . He really helped change my sound the way I was looking for ! And of course , thanks to the Big Guy Above . I prayed for him to guide my hands this year to build the best caller I could . Thanks again to all of you who were there to share in my moment ! I have the greatest friends among this fraternity of hunters and callmakers !

Bob---ya worked hard and years to get where you did man !!!  I, as well as you have been so blessed along the way to have the help of many close friends that are great call makers. Without them and their years of learning, what would we have done---how much longer would it have took to learn what we know now. We are both blessed men with both the sport we love and the many many friends we have made along the way. A big round of applause to you man on your toils and love for those calls. They are something to be very proud of my friend.

   I got to see this call at the convention, and wow what a special call it was!!! I also meet Bob at the convention and he is a class act. Congrats on you second place showing. You should be very proud.

You earned this one my friend!, Not many guys (callmakers) have the passion and drive that you have, to learn and be successful at this sport.  The Hours you logged learning from some of the greats would soon pay off, and it did.
It was an Honor for me to be asked by you to be apart of this special project, and the minutes we spent at the Kirby booth at Nationals left most of us speechless to say the least (not a dry eye around).
I look forward to being apart of your call making for years to come, and a great friendship as well.
