A few just finished.
« on: February 23, 2011, 06:53:50 PM »
Here are a few that I finished up today.
Thanks for looking,
Jack
This one is a rhododendron burl set in a purple heart pot, ceramic over glass, and it is looking for a home.

This one is bocote slate over glass. The bocote is almost like Birdseye down the middle and it to is homeless.

This is a hickory slate over glass I made for a local hunter who wanted a call that would match his new hardwood floor.

This is walnut slate over glass that I made as payment for a fellow North Carolinian that gave me 5 nice size cherry burls and the walnut for two calls.

Great looking pots!

You say that you set the rhododendron into a purpleheart shell? That's unusual. Do you ever have a problem with the two woods separating with temp, humidity, and vibration?

Also, What kind of wood are those last two strikers? It looks like that wormy wood Gary was trying yo identify the other day. Most of us thought it was pecan.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I use tite bond 2 to glue up the rhododendron / purple heart pot and after 4 years have had no trouble with any of the pots. The hard thing on these is getting the surface of the pot and the insert as close to flat as possible to achieve a good tight glue up between the two woods. The striker in the last two pictures is wormy hickory, but the post I did of the oak burl and bocote crow call had a striker in it that was turned from persimmon. I feel that persimmon and purple heart are the most dependable strikers I make. Some woods work great one day and stink it up on other days, but these two woods work every time I go to them unless it is pouring down the rain, than I just use a mouth call and hope I find a uneducated bird. *gobble*
Thanks again,
Jack
