Fargo, the short box sounds good. Starts off with a good pitch and ends with a sweet rasp to it.   The long box, very high pitched on the left side, but makes a nice yelp. I believe I got the sides a little too thin on the right. Sounds like a wounded duck.  *lol*  Need a little more practice on both, but overall I am very pleased with the results.

James, I think you are running with the grain on the long box and thus the reason for the high pitch.  The decent sound from the short might come from the fact that you have a pretty good horizontal grain structure.  Please take this the right way :)...try next time and flip the wood on the short so you have the growth rings horizontal and swinging upward instead of downward, I think you will get better results and find it easier to tune.  Doing so will give you a quarter sawn approach--ideal for a box call.  You could do the same on the long box.

Fargo, I will try that. Thanks for the input. Still have a lot to learn, (especially the checkering) but I will get there.  *up* *up*  *cheers*
