Jackson received the first patent for the push pin call on March 27, 1923. His patent info can be found in Howard Harlan's book, page 167.

"A patent was applied for on Sept 28, 1921 by John E. Jackson of Carson, VA (just south of Petersburg) and issued on March 27, 1923 for "a sounding device adapted to simulate the call of a wild turkey".  This call was a trapezoid shaped pushpin call."

"Jackson met Edward Gray Chalkley and sold the patent for this call to Chalkley (not sure of the date but some time in the mid to late 1920's).  Chalkley made calls at 3000 Kensington Ave in his basement in Richmond, until he died in 1937.  His early calls were marked with "Jackson's pat. No. 1449756".  Chalkley also made two types of crow calls - a bakolite version and a pressed paper version.  E. G. Chalkley's son Milton D. Chalkley moved the operation to his residence at 706 Gettings Street Suffolk, VA after his father passed away and no longer referenced the patent."

Here is an Older Preston Pittman push Button that uses a rubber band and a signed Allen & Ginter Turkey Red Collectors card of Preston. This is really a good sounding call!

    Here is a Doug Camp push pin. Good sounding call. It also uses a rubber band.
