Water Buffalo Horn
« on: February 05, 2011, 08:56:32 AM »
This is a call I have had in mind to make for a while now, finally got the courage to tackle it last night. It is made from a solid piece of Water Buffalo Horn and was a very tedius and time consuming project. If you have ever turned horn, you know it likes to shard off especially on the outer layers, the inner layers aren't much easier. I thought I had it made after I got it drilled and reamed, but that was just the beginning of a night of fun. I lost track of how many times I re-sharpened my tools, lol, and much of it was done with a parting tool, light scraper touches, and lots of sanding. It has been buffed to a nice sheen which revealed what I wanted to see, turkey tracks the whole length. I'm not sure I want to part with her, she plays like I had hoped she would and I may have to have some fun with her first!
Thanks for looking, Dave

Nice job, Dave.  Horn is not easy to work with in the longer lengths. *up*
