Honestly, the trumpets below could be posted in the 'call collector's parlor,' or here in the hunter's vest...since they went from someone's collection straight to my vest, I decided to post them here.
I have always been drawn to a trumpet with a wing bone mouthpiece, and when these came up for auction, I jumped. Boy am I glad I did.
I was the successful bidder on a 'one-of-a-kind,' matched pair of trumpets by one of the greats, Mr. Marlin Watkins. They are crafted in late 2002 from black palm wood, each with a hen wing bone mouthpiece, and old Peters .410 brass for ferrules. The previous owner said they play easily, and they really do. A good friend said recently that a wing bone mouthpiece is "all turkey in the woods," and I fully understand now.
Wanted to share these with you guys, they will definitely have a place in my vest this spring!!!
The richness of the tone -- these are tuned so nicely -- I just can't stop messing with them.
