lathe suggestions needed....

My lathe finally tapped out on me. I need some suggestions on a good MIDI lathe. I want something solid that is good quality. Thanks for the help.

I currently have the Jet VS mini, but if I could do it all over again, the Delta midi VS would be my choice. It has everything at the turn of a knob, PLUS reverse. Just think how smooth you could sand a piece with a reverse

The guy I bought my lathe from sold it to me cause he just bought the delta midi VS. He said he wished he had bought it right from the start. He really likes it. I think that is the way I am going when I decide to up-grade

The best midi as far as quality is concerned is the Vicmarc, but it's a little pricey.  It is actually the original design and forerunner of all the midis.  But you can't beat the quality.

I bought a Delta locally, no freight shipping charges. It has been a great lathe for me, much better than trying to turn on a drill press,lol. I would definitely consider the variable speed Delta with reverse.
Vicmarc lathes are built to last, roller bearings in the headstock, excellent lathe. I saw some great sale prices on these but they were all sold out, so I am not sure where to find one easily.
If you are interested in turning bowls etc, the Nova DVR lathes are worth looking into in my opinion. I am left handed so for me this lathe has it's obvious advantages. Especially appealing to me is the rotating headstock,variable speed technology, safety sensor ( shuts down in the event of a tool catch or dig in), reverse, plenty of power for tackling larger projects such as bowls. http://www.teknatool.com/products/lathes/DVR%20XP/Nova%20_DVRXP.htm
Like any tool considerations, my choices are decided by the tasks I want to perform with the tool, the money I have available, space to park it, etc.

I guess its true what they say....the first thing to go with age is hearing. Delta and Jet seem to be the concensus from everything I have read. I was able to pick up a slightly used grizzly with a barracuda chuck for next to nothing. My next lathe will be a Delta. Thanks for the help guys.
