It's a sad time, but FYI OSAGE ROOST will be pulling the plug at the end of the month. It's been a great 15 years since the start, but it's hardly ever used now and time to move on!

Since I make a classic style box, I think it depends on the type of box that you want. If you want a box with a flatter radius that gobbles good, I love the mahogany box with cherry. Makes it have a very mature gobble but a very good role over for the hen and gobbler yelp. It will do all of the soft calling. If you go with a more rounded radius in the cuttin and cackling type of call, I love the walnut box and mahogany lid. It gives it the volume that you want, but still will make those roost pitting or wake up calls that is written about in this months Turkey Country NWTF magazine. Box calls make some of the best pitting calls I know. You do not have to have a slate or trumpet to make these calls. For strickly locating, hard cutting and cackling, I would go with walnut and persimmon. Most hunters don't hear this hardwood on hardwood like Mr. Stribling made. But it is the best locator call going in my opinion. It would be similiar to the walnut on walnut Wiltznucs is talking about.
