Callmaker Question ???
« on: December 26, 2010, 06:01:23 PM »
I am making an East of the Slash Special Cuttin Call to go with my friend Mr. Wineman's Book in a book/call combination on e-bay.   He has given me 3 blanks of Whiskey Island Walnut.  Whiskey Island was written about in "East of the Slash".  The wood is air dried, cut in 1973, with about 10 fine worm holes on one side.  The sound of the box is super.   ----   The question is  ----- Should I go with this, or remake an East of the Slash box from a different piece of air dried walnut from Carroll Co., Ms. that is blemish free?

Thanks for your response.

Here are a couple of pictures.  The holes were along the base line of the call at the bottom of the cavity and had to be filled to prevent a future crack along the bottom of the cavity.  I think I will let someone buy this call with a 100% buy back agreement at the purchase price and do another for the Book/Call.  I think a lot that will bid for it would want to keep it on the shelf.  Some lucky hunter will get this one.  I would take it to the woods any day. Thank's for the input.

Thanks for the post Jeff.

In defense of the soundbite.  I posted this in response to your post over there.

"Thank's Jeff.  That was made by a very good callmaker friend of mine in Oxford, Ms.  He is very aggressive with his calling style.  Turkeys like different things at different times.  I am not as aggressive and use a softer style, but will get aggressive if the situation warrants.   I will say that Swamprooter kills all of his turkeys with his own recurve bows that he makes.  He is very talented.  He has killed the Royal Slam with his own bows.  The turkeys seem to like it.  I think a lot of people get hung up on one way to kill turkeys.  I say give them what they want.

Will Primose said it best in his videos when they first came out. " People say I call too often and too loud."  Couple of million viewers seem to like watching those turkeys coming in to it.  They like it and the turkeys like it.
