Bow Hunters...Broadhead for Turkey....

What broadhead do you guys use for Turkey? I have just recently gotten into bow hunting and can't wait for the Spring to let the air out of one. Do you guys shoot a lighter grain arrow and broadhead than what you would use for deer? Right now mine is set up for a 400 grain arrow and a 100 grain broad head. Should I switch to a 350 and 85 for turkey? I shoot a Mathews Switchback XT if that makes any difference. Thanks for the help on this.

I would think the weight of your arrow and broadhead would be fine. I like mechanicals for turkeys rage 2 blade or 3 but most work well. I like the ones that cut a large hole so I dont have to chase them..

just bout any broadhead will work i shoot rage or muzzy...i shoot the same set up as for deer...Adam i shoot just bout the same set up as you except mine is just a switchback...all i doo is drop the poundage and adjust my sight...i like the lighter weight for turkey as you may have to draw in weird positions...

What do you crank yours down to? Mine is at 73# right now. Do the mechanicals release and open good on Turkey? I shoot the G5 Montechs fixed blade right now. I absolutely love them. I'm alomost scared to adjust my bow because I hit with it as it is. Being new I don't know a whole lot about adjustments or poundage. I just know I want it to be accurate, then fast. Are they easy to adjust back?

Adam the only thing you should have to do would be move the whole sight down to reset your 20 yrd pin....the g5  will be fine on the birds...the poundage isnt hard to adjust...place a make across the limb screw and the socket on both limbs...this is to insure you adjust both limbs evenly...i think one full turn on each limb is bout 3 lbs...i usually take 3 to 4 off mine...it is not nesacary to drop the weight..i just prefer to do it...makes it alot easier to draw while kneeling or sitting and gives you the benefit of bein able to stay at full draw longer...most of the time a shot is going to be within 25 yrds so speed isnt realy that big of a deal...now this is just my 2 cents on this...best thing to do is what is comfortable to you...

Your set up sounds fine. If you can draw your bow, at your poundage comfortably in different positions, I wouldn't change a thing. Any good quality broadhead will do just fine. As with all bowhunting it is the  SHOT PLACEMENT that is the most critical part!! Be patient and wait for the best shot.  Practice shooting in different positions. Good luck! Roc

Adam I always use the G5 Montecs.  Smoked a few birds with that broadhead.  I only pull back about 60lbs though... I'm a wimp
