NY Fall Bird
« on: October 19, 2010, 08:04:49 PM »
I took a break today from bowhunting for deer and decided to turkey hunt instead.  I hunted from just about daybreak till around 2 o'clock without seeing or hearing any birds.  Being it was so quiet I decided to head back home and call it a day.  When I got home I sat down at the kitchen table and had something to eat.  As I'm sititng there I see two birds walk across the hillside behind the house.  I gave them about 30 minutes to move off before heading back outside and try to get after them.
I wound up heading in the direction from which they came from and set up in that general area.  After a few minutes I started to do some calling using a longbox.  It took about 10 minutes before they started to answer and had them at about 30 yards within 15 minutes after they started answering me back.  I setteld my bead on the closest one of the two and and squeezed off the shot.  She went down hard and flopped a couple of times before she expired.  All in all it was a good day in the turkey woods!!

Here she is with the longbox from BigTom that I used to call them in.  Hard to see in the pic, but the call is 1/4 sawn Sycamore.
