Up close & personal with turkeys

This morning I headed out to my favorite spot. It's always nice to just get away, relax, & enjoy God's handywork!

I got in before daylight and set up beneath a scaly bark hickory tree. This tree overlooks an old overgrown field to the north, a mixed pine & cedar grove to the west, and a stand of oak & hickory to the east. As I sat there I heard all kinds of racket as the woods woke up. Before there was light enough for good photos I had 17 deer pass by me within spittin distance- 7 bucks (3 BRUISERS!!) and 10 does. About 15 minutes later I heard some soft yelps and I answered back with the wingbone. The woods opened up with turkeys making noises I've never heard before! You would've thought it was a bunch of sick geese getting attacked by a bobcat going through puberty  ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

It took the flock about an hour to finally work their way over to me. They came in to about 15 yards and started preening and resting. I've never seen turkeys so calm. It was as if they knew I wasn't going to hurt them. A few of them layed down in the grass and even slept for a bit. It was a surreal moment!
After that a little visitor came strolling by and broke up the party.....darned masked bandits  ROTFLMBO
