The Last Straw
« on: August 02, 2010, 07:44:41 AM »
Just got back from my nieces wedding in Atlanta this weekend.  I believe it was almost as hot there as it is here in Mississippi.  Just before reaching Greenville, the outside temp was reading 103 and that is before factoring in the brutal Delta Humdity.

Anyway working on calls was out of the question late yesterday PM so I rode down to my favorite river chute to check on my boat because the water was rising.  Everything OK- still too hot to fish.  Deciced to get up early this AM and work on a few calls.

Went out to my storeroom/shop and worked on a couple of calls that I had started.  After a while I noticed that only one of the two fans was running.  I looked, and the other was plugged in.  When I reached for the plug to check it, I got a nice jolt of 110.  -  Upon inspection a wood rat had chewed one of the wires next to the plug.  Well that was the last straw.  Usually, when see evidence or hear one, I will set a trap with a little peanut butter.  I had heard him about 2 weeks ago and decided to let him stay since it was hot.  My shop is on the other side of a ditch for a cotton field and it is almost imposible to not have them.  Well, when I got the shock this AM and he put one of my only two fans out of commission,  I decided that he will get a little Peanut Butter surprise this evening when I get home.
In fact we just picked up a new jar at Trader Joe's in Atlanta.  I think they call that place two bucks a pop or something to that effect.  Well my friend is going to get a 2 $ pop this evening.

Yall stay cool out there.  I'll keep you informed on the rat killing.

Round one did not work.  After he got the same jolt in the mouth from the same 110 that I did, he came back to the same spot and tried the peanut butter.  He set off the trap but avoided getting the killing smack.  Sometimes these wood rats are over a foot long inclucing the tail.  I may have to go to the bigger trap that I have.-- Keep ya posted.

He's a tough lil bugger if he likes being jolted by electric!!!  Foot long... I'm not sure if I'd be as terrified of them as the snakes though... *peep*

I opended the door one evening and had one on shelf about a foot from my head.  He shrieked and jumped to the floor. --  Now that will upset you.  He got the trap right off the bat.

Here you go Porter, We have those at our property in Montana. These things can get up to 1.5lbs and 18 inches long (half of that is tail) I've had those things wake me up at night when they run across my sleeping bag.

No respect should be given to a man who does not honor his word. He is just an adolescent who's acorns haven't dropped yet.

Those who stir the S**T pot should have to lick the spoon.
