Elk where released in North Carolina Smokie Mountains back in 2001. Yes this Elk is in the North Carolina.

These pictures were taken on Sunday June 22, 2001. The bull-calf was born on the previous Friday.This is the first elk born in the wild in North Carolina since the mid-1800's.

Elk were released in Kentucky, Tennessse, and North Carolina by wildlife agencies for each state and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. There have already been a few hunts for Elk in Kentucky and Tennesse.

They were released in Arkansas in the 80's? I believe. They have been having hunts since the early to mid 90's. Love hearing them bugle while floatin down the river!
