... been shootin' my bow for a couple a days now ...
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:03:11 AM »
... a couple of days ago, I just couldn't take it anymore ... >:(

Went out to the barn, grabbed one of my bows, my release, few arrows, & walked out to the range ...
... thought it best to crank the Ol' Widowmaker down to 60 lbs, checked it with the scale & then, it was time to give it a go ... :o
1st set was away, then the 2nd set, a 3rd, a 4th, ect ... & all felt good - boy was I relieved & one very happy BowHunter ... ;D
So here I am a few days later, been shootin' some every day, & all is still going fine - looks like I'm gonna' be "up in the trees" come Oct 1st ... *cool*

... & to think, I actually "paid" a guy to slit my wrist ... ROTFLMBO

I've been doing the same.  Shooting and shooting some more.  September 15th is quickly approaching and I cannot wait to be out in the woods.  Unfortunately for me... I'll be hunting from the ground... scared of heights!

I have been working on stands and food plots. I have a few permanent metal stands that are about 15 feet tall that are big and roomy enough for two people to get in. These stands have metal brackets above them that are designed for a rain cover to go over. Come on fall!!! I need to get the Hoyt out and start shooting.

So do you mainly bow hunt for deer or turkeys too?  I'm weird, I take my bow for turkeys mainly and deer secondary! *bannana*

We start Sept 15th with archery, so for about 2 weeks... I'll be in bow hunting mode for turkeys.  After that, it's shotgun time *bannana*

I think I'd go crazy with no fall season.  I love it soooo much.  Now I really have to do good since Al created me a specific fall call.  Might be jynxed since it's not made of Osage ROTFLMBO

i'll be in a stand in early september.  you guys be safe.  i use to not be worried about accidents in my climber, but after the birth of my son, i view stand hunting a little different.  early on i never wore a harness.  i started wearing one about 4 years ago and have now added a new addition to it.  this is what i will be using this year and for years to come.  you are locked in from before you start climbing, until the time you get down.  can be used with climbers or fixed stands.  it's the treestand life line (LLS).  if you guys don't have one, you might want to look into it.  i saw a post on another site where you can make one yourself, but i didn't want to take a chance.  if you guys want the directions on the do it yourself version, let me know and i will try and track it down.  same concept and is suppose to be pretty easy to make.

You make a great post about safety.  I'm so scared of heights, I cannot/will not climb in a tree.  I have friends that go 20 to 25 feet up with no harness nothing.  I'm always so afraid they'll fall to the ground...

Funny how little ones make you get a whole new perspective on life!

I haven't been able to shoot the last two nights, but I'll make up for it tomorrow night RkLu

you are right about how the little ones will give you a new perspective on life.  i do the majority of my hunting out of climbers and bow hunt out of either a climber or a lock on, 20+ ft up.  last year, as i was trying to quickly get down in my climber, so i could get back to a tv to watch my dawgs play their opener and i ended up dropping about 5 feet at one time.  my arms were above parralel and it felt like i cracked my collar bone.  i don't think i did, but i felt the pain of that incident until after the first of the year.
