Black Bear
« on: June 23, 2010, 01:42:25 PM »
Just saw my first balck bear ever in S.C. Was riding the Francis Marion National Forest looking for poults when I came around a bend in the road and saw something at about four hundred yards. I keep a pair of sixteen by sixty binoculars in my truck and when I got focused on him I couldn't believe how big he was, HUGE. He kept ambling up the road to me and stopped at about one hundred and fifty yards before seeing me and hauling freight. He was a beautiful animal, did see two hens with no poults, one hen with about ten poults, that flew when I startled them. Had a sow pig with eight piglets, about ten pounds a piece, run across the road in front of me and saw a swallow tailed kite, it was a great day!

Talking to some boys in PA, I'm not sure how anyone handles running into bears...  I'm glad we do not have them, but maybe some day I'll be brave enough to get close to one and feel the experience... I bet it's an adrenaline rush for sure!

Ain't nothing like one bailing out of a big tree. Hitting the ground and scattering your hounds. LOL. Seen that too many times.
