Dang copperheads
« on: May 17, 2010, 11:55:04 AM »
My mom was bitten by one on Saturday. She was weeding her garden and did not see it hiding under the cabbage leaves. The sucker was 2 feet long and dad quickly ended its life with a $10.00 garden hoe!  *up*   It got 2 of her fingers and her arm was swollen up to her elbow. The one finger is still black and hard to move. It also caused her blood pressure to sky rocket. Then the medication shot her blood sugar through the roof. She is have a little bit of a rough time, but as of this morning everything is returning back to normal and it looks like she may get to go home today. She has been in great spirits though out everything. They have had a few close calls with copperheads in the past, but this is the first time any one has been bitten.  I hate snakes!! Just think, I was in the field and their garden just 2 weeks ago, wearing shorts and sneakers. I was also crawling through a field and walking over downed trees turkey hunting.  Makes ya wonder how close I was to one of these crawling death machines. I think a good pair of snake proof jeans would be a good investment now. I will try to get some pics posted of the snake.

Just got off the phone with my mom and they want to keep her for at least another day. blood sugar level jumped up again, so they want to monitor her some more. She is getting bored and wants to get back home and back into her shop. Yep, my mom is a woodworker!!  *up* Dad said the snake measured 30 inches. That is one big snake. Thanks for the well wishes and I will keep ya posted.

James, good to hear she is doing as well as she is. Thank the Lord! Copperhead bits can be very serious. Hope she is home soon!

Whoa James-hope your mom gets over that soon. There is only one kinda of good snake in my opnion---A DEAD ONE!!!
I had an experience last year with a copperhead also when I approached a dead turkey I had shot. It still raises the hair on my neck thinking what that strike could have done.
Sounds like your mom's on the road to recovery and I am glad to hear it!!!
Give her our well wishes !!!

I told my mom about the well wishes and prayers and she said to tell all of you "Thank You". She was touch by your kindness. Thank you for brightening her day some. She is getting bored and starting to go a little stir crazy. I have a feeling the saw dust will be a flying when  is able to get back into the shop. Thanks again
