come on over Lou!! We didnt get many today...Its cold out and I think a good ole warm Spring Rain will make em Kick. We are only finding them under Dead Apple Trees..Not a single one under dead Elm...who Knows....I dehydrating some too !

I think the cold here has them layin low too. Although my Boy said some of his friends have found piles...dang it...wonder where...lol  Almost like keepin a long beard secret! Life is good!!!

Morels are the best but we need some warmer weather to reall make them pop!

I've been finding a lot in the last few days. Found one almost 12 inches tall today. It was as big around as a soda can ! Found them on a hillside so steep you had to hold on to trees to climb up to get them. Won't last for long .

BOB..Ive heard of them getting that big..That must be a sight to see......That would fill up a dehydrater  fast...lol What trees u finding them under??

I've never had a morel mushroom. I hear about them and have seen them on t.v., but have never tasted them. What type of terrain do you find them in?

I usually find them around dying elms. I look for rusty colored dead limbs on standing elms. I have a few places where I find them in open pastures where there isn't a tree within 100 yds. My opinion is that morels are as unpredictable as turkeys are. In the hill country they are often found on slopes where the soil stays moist but drains well. Remeber to take an onion sack with you to put them in, that allows the spores to come loose and make it to the ground as you walk around and never pull them out by the roots ,cut them off at ground level. These steps help ensure that there will be more to pick next year. Good luck and happy shroomin'  !
