This past weekend was the NY Youth Hunt for spring gobbler and I took my nephew out. We met up with BigTom on Saturday morning and went to the spot we would hunt that morning. We barely stepped out of the truck when the first tom sounded off. We proceeded to get him to gobble again with an owl call. Once we had him pinpointed we moved in and set up. Unfortunately shortly after he flew off the roost so did a hen and she led him away.

During the course of the morning we heard no less than 5 different toms. We worked a couple of others but all were with hens and they were led away as well by the hens. Even though my nephew didn't get a bird he was very excited by the events of the day and is now hooked. He's hooked so much that he's asked me no less than 1,000 times to take him this weekend. Unfortunately because he has some state school exams next week he needs to be home and study.
It broke my heart to tell him no, but he'll have many more years and opportunities to hunt in the future.
Yes, I may have created a monster but it's also to my advantage...you see it also guarantees me many more years and opportunities to spend afield with my nephew.

Can't wait for my younger nephew to start hunting too!!!

I am truly blessed by my little monsters.
