Yes you can. At least in MO. I was in this very situation for Nashville. Called up the court house and told them I was scheduled for vacation at that time. Said thanks for letting them know and they'd put me back on the list. I even asked to do my duty earlier and explained I wasn't trying to get out of it... just that timing didn't work.
I'm pretty sure most of the laws on this is the same State to State!
