SS "Shortie"
« on: September 06, 2009, 10:02:43 AM »
I got these two calls from Al & Josh a couple years ago. The "shortie" is made from Cherry over Poplar. It would make a great fall call as it keekees like crazy with high-pitched yelps. The other call for size comparison from SS is a Cherry over Walnut regular sized box call.

Those are nice and compact. Add a yelper and you are set for fall!

Here's my Shortie and one of my favorite calls.  This call has the most harvest of any of my calls...  3.  I rotate calls a lot, but this one is my go to call in the fall.  I have a challenge ahead of me to try and beat it this fall with the new one sider Al built me.  It's hard for me to say I won't bring this call out, as it's pretty sentimental to me!!!

Poplar/Quartersawn Sycamore!!

Dang Rickey, that brings back some painful memories!!  ROTFLMBO  I can still remember how much we struggled to learn to build box calls!! OUCH!! Sure wasn't as easy as I thought.. We don't build that lil' call any more but we have an up to date version, so to speak. LOL.. Didn't have a single pic of one of our new Shorty's, but here's one with it in the pic.. It's the bottom one, Limba/Yellowheart. Oh yea, I still remember your ebay name at that time..  RkLu

Al,

You guys have come a long way on looks but your older calls could talk turkey, too. If you look, your older calls looked good. It is just that you guys have found ways to improve on what was already a good call. You make GREAT calls now.
