Chasing a Ghost Gobbler in the morning.....

Been waiting all week for another crack at the invincible one we have on the property we hunt. I've gotten him in gun range two times and have not been able to put him on the ground. This bird has run the same basic area for two years now. Last year he came from a direction we were not expecting and there was no way to get a shot at him. Last weekend I had him in gun range for a buddy but he never saw him. I've hunted everything you can imagine and have never had something as frustrating as this. We hope to have him on the ground tomorrow. He is very large bird and taking him would make the past two years of chasing him worth it. One thing is for sure, if we get him tomorrow I will be eating him southern style shortly there after. Good luck to all of you chasing Tom turkey down tomorrow.

Goo dluck.  Sounds like you may need to get creative with your set-ups and/or tactics with him.  I know how you feel...been there done that deal myself.  Go get him but don't beat him to death with calling, patience is usually key with those birds.---Jason

Even when this bird loses the war he has won most of the battles!!!!

Last week after waiting him out until 11:30 we had a coyote come in on us right on top of where he was hammering away. We thought the hunt was over and he moved on so we left. We went to the other end of the property just walking it. Came back by the area we were sitting and he hammered away right on top of where we had been set up. It's like he flies off the roost thinking of ways to screw with me! I think we'll get him tomorrow, but we have done everything imaginable, ethically speaking, to kill this bird. If I hadn't seen him with my own eyes I wouldn't beleive he is real. He's one of those birds that if we don't get him shortly after fly down then we'll just have to wait him out.

Ha Ha....bumped heads with ole lucky/stubboen birds too. It can flat out haunt ya and before ya know it the season has got by and then you realize you haven't changed to get a little of that 2 year old action for the mindset !!!!

I've already flushed this season down the drain until this bird is dead. We thought we had him pegged roosting in two seperate trees. So we sneak in this morning about 150 yards from his normal roosting spots. Take three steps and all you hear is limbs breaking and wings beating. He flew the roost. To top it off it was the exact same route I have taken 3 times to get at this bird. He was roosted in a 25 ft tall pine tree directly over our set up. Birds have evidently went silent. This morning was a God awful morning to hunt down here and we would have been better off to stay in bed.

Gobblers like that keep us going..............................to the therapist!  Enjoy the hunt no matter how much he yanks you around.  When it all falls together it will be all the more sweeter.
