Thoughts on the site access
« on: March 20, 2010, 09:33:37 AM »
Well it looks like the spam bots/problem childs are hard at work.  I've had to switch back to me approving members after yesterdays fiascal.  Luckily mzlhunter let me know ASAP that our site was getting spammed.  I do not think a lot of people noticed it.

Here's what I'm thinking of and let me know if this makes sense to most members.  I'm thinking of only allowing access from North America!  We have a few Canadians and everyone else is US based.  I know this is discriminating against our friends in China, Nigeria, Russia, Luxemburg, and Europe... but all that traffic seems to be evil and bad stuff :(

I think all of you know, I'm pretty open on the site, so I thought I'd let you know what I'm thinking of doing.

Let me know what you think!  But this would stop a lot of our issues with proxy trolls and spam/virus activity.

Porter, That is a great idea. This site is for turkey hunters/ call collectors. Allow North American members only and personally approve new members!

I think all they "hunt" for is to convince members to click on bad items....

It's the only bird I hunt that will actually stand there and let me shoot him...

No respect should be given to a man who does not honor his word. He is just an adolescent who's acorns haven't dropped yet.

I'm with yah but can you allow Labman(Jason Newman) from Canada on... he's been a memeber here already for sometime I believe.

By the way, I would operate the forum like this... by an "invitation Only" from existing members and for unknown newbies...have them write a detailed paragraph about who they are and why they want to join the roost for review.  Should be able to tell a true hunter from some nut job who's into spamming and virus attacks.

Mike I also think it should be mandatory for you to verify their email account if not email and address. I belong to a Bama football board and the only way to get in is through an invitation of a fellow member. We have a lot of quality people on that site and is so enjoyable. By the way, if you get banned so does the person who recommended you. Keeps a lid on things with accountability.
