Web Camera Poll

Since the early post several folks have expressed interest to me that they think a web cam would be a neat idea and even a benefit for us call making and collecting friends.  Just curious to see if there is much of an interest out there among the forum friends.

benefits for those who do not know:
-Seeing your friends in person you've never met.
-Demonstration, coaching and utilization of calls, techniques, etc...
-no long distance phone call fees
-visit with family away from home.
-make and swap still photos of family and maybe successful hunts.

Lisa is hooking my new cam up right now so I too will be ready this evening and can't wait as some friends and I have already been planning on chatting with each other.  I'm excited as some I have known for years but have never seen or met and we talk all the time.  Guess I am adding you to the web cam friends list then   I'll be in touch.--Jason

     Leaders must lead and this made very well be a huge break thru in the turkey hunting community....

     Lots of reasons to own one.......

     1. Being able to meet a callmaker face to face and see/hear the call before you buy, would be neat!!
     2. View different techniques for running calls.
     3. Visual help, when your frustrated w/ a certain type call....
     4. Daughters in NE......No more sending $$$ for the phone bill......LOL!

      No reason to make a chat room for all of us now.......

Well, used it tonight with a great friend I rarely get to see and we had a blast chatting and playing calls for quite a while.  It was like he was here in my den with me.  Worked great.  Didn't tie up the phone, no long distance cost, no holding onto a phone...just layed back in the recliner playing calls and bs'ing.

P.S.- Bought the Logitech at walmart for $35, down loaded their software and it was good. If the other person has the logitech software, as well, that's great, cause the picture and sound is very clear.  However, if the other person you are connecting to does not have the logitech software, there is free software that you can dowload.  We also tried using our webcam through the yahoo messanger which we didn't think worked as well so we tried the Skype software and it was the best quality and coolest of the two free software downloads that we tried.  Either way you can't go wrong.---Jason

     It takes the term chatting to a whole new level......LOL!

    Running calls is allot easier then over the phone for sure.......Thanks for the help

There are still major privacy and security concerns with webcams.  Especially those that are thought to "not be on"... Most businesses prohibit them.  I can see the benefit, but I'd probably pass.

  I understand your concerns.......I'll commo w/ so few person, that I don't think security is a concern......The people, I'll be doing this with, I've known a long time and I consider friends, so trusting them isn't a problem....

Its not an issue of trusting the people you know your chatting with.  Its whether or not you trust the individual who unbeknownst to you is observing your chat via viral softwares.

I don't want to burst anyones bubble, but unfortunately, everything you do on the Net goes to the cloud and is accessible.  The university I work at is looking into a device that will be able to monitor encrypted traffic.  Nothing is 100% safe.  Used to be able to say encrypted traffic is safe.

Saying that, I lead such a boring life that if someone wants to see what I'm doing... go at it.

A very valid point is brought up that you can never be too safe!

Chad mentions some valid poits I too considered.  If someone spies on me they aint gonna see nothing but a wall, hear a bunch of turkey talk or even see me scratch my nutz or pick my nose from time to time...LOL!

P.S.- Always make sure to disconnect the cam from being online or check your camera status when not using it, though nothing is full proof.  Or even put a lens over it.

   question, what do folks who have the privacy concern do when they use a laptop as most lap tops today already come standard with the cams built into them.  Are you only at risk when yo have installed a "use" software to engage the camera or are you at risk for these viral intruders at all times, with or with out the engagement of software?  What if I just un-plug the camera USB when I am not actually using it, will that work?  Not quite sure what the specific "privacy" concern is or to what extent...please clarify for us.---Jason

Jason all the laptops I've seen only turn on the camera when the software loads.  I'm a mac user, so I'll know if mine turns on with a green light 

The window laptops I've used are the same way.

If you are really concerned, you could just go find the device in the device manager and disable it
