If I could hunt this Spring I Would...
« on: January 28, 2010, 09:36:24 PM »
If I could hunt this Spring I Would wear a pair of jeans a T-Shirt with a plaid wool shirt and my Carhartt overalls (brown) and my hunting boots and a brown hat. If it was cool just my Carhartt (brown) jacket. If is was cold I have an old Army Green Camo coat. A mesh face mask only if the situation dictated. No vest no seat. No blind. My 20 GA. Remington 1100 with a full choke and a handful of #4 shot. One box call and maybe a yelper if I could learn to use it. And that would be that. Maybe a pair of cotton .99 cent gloves. Yes I am old school.

Now how in the world do you expect to kill a bird with a 20 ga., no blind and no vest or seat?? *peep*

And you know you have to have the newest camo out there.

I always thought is was all about the next new thing to get the hunter to spend money. My uncle was the best Turkey hunter I know and he wore Dickies overalls and a wool shirt and jean cap. I just followed his lead I guess. Why spend all that money when it doesn't make you one bit better a hunter???

You mean you can hunt without camo  *peep*

I do kick the trend of buying Named brand camo.  I'm a predator fan, but I am looking at getting some of Ol Tom's hunting apparel.

Can you do it without, yes.  If you want to go really old school though... might as well get you a smoke pole or long bow and go after them :)

I love reading what other people vision.  I loved seeing my grandfathers pictures of when he used to hunt.  They didn't have the technology to do the things we do now.  Everything has advanced 10 fold.  A lot of his black and white photos show him deer hunting in red and not Orange.  Not sure how far back the rules changed, but it's cool.

Look at our turkey calls.  I started out with a darn Ashby Push Pin and I got it out the other night and played away with it.

Mike, I think the last line hits the nail on the head. To many guys rely on gimmicks to make turkey hunting easier.

Hypocrite. You'll be going this spring. You'll ride into the Camo Blind on a Camo golf cart, sit in a Camo Chair, play a fancy new Camo pattern long box and watch Scott shoot a Tom with his Camo Browning Gold complete with a Indian Creek choke and Hevi 13. Then I'll stand up wearing my new Under Armor camo, walk done and put a fancy camo rope around the bird's feet, grab the pretty boy decoy and we'll get in his Jeep complete with Camo seat covers and leave! I'll get home skin the bird with a camo gripped meat processing knife, fry him and put it on a camo plate! I'll have video to prove it to.

Adam you might have set a first on any forum today... you actually got reported to moderator by none other than your father...  Now that was funny!

I'm driving through a mess of a snow storm and an email pops up...  moderator action required.  I knew this wasn't going to be good.  Had to wait for the site to pull up and I was laughing pretty hard!

That was a great post from you  *up* ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

Mike,

Just when I tell you how we will always worry about our kids and try to do all we can for them, they up and pull something like this. I remember many years ago realizing how much smarter my dad was the older I got. Maybe there is still hope for our kids.
