Different hen sounds different regions and age groups?

One thing that has been surprising over the last few months is the different sounds each caller likes in his callers. seems deep south prefer high pitch calls. Younger hunters high pitched calls. Northeast and Northwest more mature and deeper sounds. Older hunters seem to prefer the more mellow sound of an older hen. Then there is Porter in a league of his own. Would love to hear your insight.

I agree with Al. It is all about rhythm and cadence. As long as it has some rasp on the back side.

I agree.  But I do like mine to have a little higher pitch.  I was never a fan of that deep yawk.

 Lou, based on my sales, I get a bunch more requests for calls that are higher pitched. No matter where they are from. I've never been a fan personally of the deeper yawk either. People have different tastes in calls, but I judge a call based on the response it gets in the woods.

My calls are pretty high-pitched also. Ask Al and Jeff. I may not be as bad as Porter but I like for them to hear me.

You want to know a secret?  Daryl pretty much likes the exact sound I do.  Isn't that scary ?

I have to have a High start that rolls over to some nasty rasp.  I do own other sounding calls and use them too.  As everyone stated, it has to be turkey

Al, I know as long as it sounds like turkey. I am referring to what you said in your second post. I have noticed that down here in GA. and AL. younger hen higher pitched calls is what they want. Mainly because hens don't get very old here due to predator pressure. Talk to old timers and they don't like that "yawk" as you referred to. It seems that they are all "old school" in sound. Old Mature hen.

I am almost settled into a close to normal tuning ear after doing those to loud mouth calls for Porter. I seem to be getting a little higher pitched and raspier now a d ays after you guys effected me.

Were I Hunt the birds love louder and raspy..... Until there pressured........ Then you better be able to sweet talk ...... I guess your right Mike, I see more young hens than old ones..... The next call Porter gets from me will have and amp on it with one switch "MORE"

i tend to like mine in a med to high pitch but i try to make what the customer wants...just sent out some glass calls that are loud and proud but with the right striker they will deff talk sweet....i hunt public land and tend to use calls that are a lil out of the norm for down here....just i lil difference in the sounds.....but last season i think i could have tied a hen to a string and still wouldnt have had anyluck

 Dave, I'll send you some pics, but not sure I want to send you a call!!    Just kiddin' buddy! Porter would have to get someone who knows how to run a call to record his!

Al, I am shocked at your shots at Porter! He can run a call as good as my 3 year ld grandson can play the Guitar!
