A couple of rough days
« on: January 17, 2010, 12:16:27 PM »
Well my new year is off to a great start. I took my Tahoe in for front brakes Fri morning. I had to go to my oldest daughters baby shower on Sat which was 80 miles away. Guy said I'd have it back in a few hours. At 2:00pm he called and said there was something wrong with the caliper on drivers side but don't worry it will get done by 5:00pm. I went down at 5, he is 1 block from my house. He then tells me caliper is fine but he has to rebuild the master cylinder. So its going to be at closing on Sat before its done. So off to get a rental car for one day.
Went back by his shop Sat before leaving to get car seat out of the Tahoe. He informs me he can't rebuild the master cylinder and has to get one from the dealer, which because of MLK day won't be till TUE. *cry*
I got back Sat night and had to run for milk and bread around 7:30pm so I drove by the shop and my Tahoe was sitting out on the main street with the window down, and of course it had started raining a few hours ago.  >:(
Ran home and grabbed my extra key and went back. Then I discovered that someone had tried to steal it and my key no longer worked. So now its raining hard and I can't even roll up the darn window.  >:( >:(
So with no other choice I had to wait for an hour and a half for the Police to show and take a report and then pay to have it towed to my place so it didn't get tore up worse.
And last but least to really show what an idiot this guy is...... his shop has 6 stalls and only had 3 cars in there.  >:( >:( >:(

Wow now that is bad.  You think the shop left the window down or do you think the low lifes who tried to steal got it down?  My friend had that happen to him.  They forced the window down and stole his radio :(

Dave, The shop should pay for the damage or  not charge you for the work!

I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. I own an auto repair business. The shop is responsible to make sure your vehicle is secured after hours. If it is not put inside then they have the resposibility to lock it and make sure the windows are up. That is basic care for a customers vehicle. Take a firm stance and make sure that they pay any charges due to the theft whether it is a deductible or the costs of repairing damage due to the theft. I suggest finding another shop after that, sounds like they are doing a lot of guessing on the brake repair.

If any of you ever have questions on car repairs feel free to run them by me. I will try to help all I can. I have been in the business for many years and am up to date on most models.

Thanks for the offer Bob. I think I'm just going to take it to a Chevy dealer and be done with it.

Forgot to mention it was a MIDAS MUFFLER SHOP

Yeah me and that guy would be having a heart to heart meeting. Customer service is awful just about everywhere. Sorry to hear this Dave!

Dave, take a look at this, I would certainly be well informed in this type of situation
http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/press_releases/2008/0721_bar.shtml
Different states have agencies such as this to protect consumers, at the very least a Better Business Bureau, you did the right thing by notifying law  enforcement so you have some documentation.
As you can see, this chain doesn't have the best track record, the better informed you are, the better your chances of prevailing, and I would certainly take some kind of action, at the very least reporting this to a state agency and/or your insurance company.
If you go back to the shop I would have someone go with you, you may later need a witness, I know I might! ROTFLMBO
Best of luck to you, hope it all works out!

I can't believe it, this mechanic surprised me. He took care of everything and paid for my rental car to boot.  *up*
