It is in the Mahogany Family and I have always seen it as boxes. It is a medium density wood. One of my favorites to work with for furniture projects.

I have a poplar/sapelle call and it rocks.  It's either poplar or holly.... I cannot remember which one :(  Maybe Al will remember  ROTFLMBO

I also missed out on a heck of a long box from the SS boys.  I'm wanting to say it was walnut/sapelle and I regret not getting it :(

Sapele is quite a bit harder than Mahogany. From what I've built using it as boxes and paddles, I like it a lot better for paddles. At least on the Cost style box anyway.

I built one out of all sapele and it was a great sounding call. I called in my younger brothers first bird with it. He wanted it so bad he just had to have it so I trade it for his radial arm saw!!
