Bill,

Al told me that Spanish Cedar is actually in the Mahogany family. I know they look similar.

I pulled out three calls with Spanish Cedar boxes and a couple calls with lighter mahogany boxes and I cannot tell much difference in their color or grain pattern.

It's not hard to tell Spanish Cedar from Mahogany. Just smell of them!  ROTFLMBO The Spanish Cedar has an aroma! It's used a lot for making cigar humidors. In looks, it's very similar to mahogany..

Al, Jeff, Rickey.....the Spanish Cedar should be lighter in color and smoother grain and softer than the Mahogany...Right????

Mike, the color is VERY close usually. Some Mahogany is darker, but I've also had Spanish Cedar that is on the darker side. Same with hardness, it varies quite a bit from one piece to the other with mahogany and spanish cedar alike.  I've had some Honduran Mahogany that was very soft and fuzzy when drilled out.

You aren't kidding on the smell.  I have one from you with a Peruvian Walnut paddle.  Darn box still stinks and I think it's almost 2 years old.  That's why I never did buy another one.. thought you'd let Josh's girlfriends cat pee on it or something  ROTFLMBO

I think it stinks worse than that darn Camphor Burl pot Daryl sold me  *aah*
